If i do visit Bergen and the fjords this summer , i was thinking of spending some time on some islands close yet abroad. I was thinking between Faroe islands , Shetland or Orkney. What do you believe? I love natural sceneries , as well as city-strolling. Not into active sports , but would walk for hours gazing the sea and the mountains.
Bring warm clothes and an open mind and you will have an experience you wont get any other place in the world. Get in contact with the friendly locals and listen to their advice. June-August is the best time to go.
Faroe Islands is located between Denmark & Iceland and is just a couple of hours flight from Copenhagen. The country is very small with a total population of less than 60K. The most amazing thing about the country is the people who are very friendly & polite. The capital Torshavn offers some of the most beautiful views of the ocean and has got many cliffs overlooking the sea. There are a number of fjords here and is very beautiful to see them while driving down or when you are on a small boat...
If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful life, Faroe Island is the right place for you. People are nice, warm and very friendly. The place is surrounded by mountains, waterfalls and sea. I stayed in Klaksvik for 3 months, the second largest place in Faroe Islands, only 2 pubs are available in this island. Not so much fun in this place. I also had a chance to see the other island and i really enjoyed the view of the entire island. I would like visit this place again.
