Antananarivo means city of thousand hills, and it is no only embedded into hills, but also part of them. Ricefields and small huts and houses, old pinetrees and eucalyptus together with the red soil make a nice contrast. The city has some morbid charme by the old french colonial style. Some big hotels, the zoma (daily big market, careful with your belongings) with handicrafts and precious stones, many stairs in town and for some relaxed moments the Zoo and Botanical garden make it worth to stay for a while.
