Holiday Inn Lido is a great hotel complex with several pubs, a bowling alley and several outstanding restaurants. Right across the street is a great chinese restaurant that is great and very inexpensive. Visit the Great Wall (there are several gates), the Ming Tomb, the chinese air museum (if you are into aviation) and The Forbidden City.

In my opinion Guilin is just another Chinese city with a couple of pagodas in the downtown area. Its nothing special! The better option is to go 1 hour south to YANGSHUO. you can go by bus or rivier cruise from Guilin and it is much more beautiful and exciting. Yangshou is a small town in the fork of where two rivers meet and surrounded by beautiful mountains. The water in the riviers is crystal clear and is good for swimming in the summer. The town is mostly set up for foreign tourists supplying all the souveniers and western cuisine you could want (or have been missing during your tour of China) and most of the towns folk can speak English.
