In a survey launched by the world’s largest travel and lifestyle social network WAYN.com (Where Are You Now?), Prague has proven a strongly favoured alternative to the traditional ‘most-romantic’ cities. This year’s survey suggests the world’s lovers could soon be popping the question in Bohemia on the banks of the River Vlatva rather than the famous Seine.
The top spots went to the usual suspects with Paris, Venice and Rome in first second and third respectively.
But it was the City of a Hundred Spires which takes the crown for being most impressive new comer in the category of Romance Tourism.
WAYN.com polled its 10.8 million members to find out the world’s opinion on the most romantic place to spend Valentine’s Day, and Prague came in fourth.
Outside of Europe the Taj Mahal finished top, in an incredible fifth place overall.
WAYN co-founder Peter Ward commented: “for me, one of the delights of our site are the surprises and breaks from the norm that a community such as ours can unveil. Having been to Prague I must say it is stunning, and it does make a less clichéd alternative for popping the question perhaps, although it doesn’t surprise me that the French capital and the gems of Italy remain at the top; they do still represent a great image of romance for the lovers out there”
An incredible 5000 people took part in the survey on WAYN.com, who provide a forum for members to share their tips and suggestions, highlighting the most interesting destinations, the people in them, and the things to do there.
