Dad's Funeral - Day 6: Thursday, 30th July, 2009

The last day down in Ulladulla, and the day of Dad's burial. Also, everything went according to plan: it didn't rain, I slept well, and alot of people that were both family members and those who were friends of the family came along.

The service was held at the local church - The Holy Family Catholic Church - in Ulladulla. Father Francis led the way with the opening prayer. Ingrid and Damon read out the Eulogy they wrote out together. Andrew did the first reading (Wisdom 3: 1-9 and Psalm 114-115). I read out the Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 102) and Father Francis read out the Gospel according to John 6: 30-40. And Sean and Lauren helped with the Offertry (where they brought out the bread and wine).

The burial was at Sandridge Cemetry in Mollymook, some of us got to be 'pallbearers' (ie we got to carry the coffin from the church to the hearse, and then from the hearse to the grave). I never got to do this before, and the coffin was so heavy I thought I would never complain about the work I had to do at work being 'heavy' (though I still do).

We then had snacks and refreshments at the church hall before it was time for me to go back home.
I thought I was going to leave on Friday, but obviously, the plans had changed. Carolyn, Marion and Pat (Ingrid's in-laws) gave me a lift to Sutherland station. The journey back was much more pleasant than the one down there. I had a lovely conversation with the other ladies in the car, and had no one to criticise what I was saying. It was all good.

They dropped me back at Sutherland station, and I got a train back to Central, another one to Town Hall and a bus to Lane Cove. Had no mishaps while travelling in the car, no mishaps on the train, until I got on the bus. When it stopped at Wynyrd (or near there), some old drunk tried to get on the bus, but he was gravely ill and looked like he was going to cark it any minute. The bus driver looked like he was very concerned for this man, and wouldn't let him on the bus. He said to the man, 'You need an ambulance' and even waited until the man got some help. He was in no condition to go anywhere at that point in time.

It must have at least been well after 9 when I finally got home. After calling Mum to let her know I was okay, and speaking to Damon after that, I was ready to 'cark it' myself, and even though I didn't get much sleep the following day, I was sure I would catch up soon enough.
