Safety
The World Wide Web is the biggest information exchange out there: many more people than you intend have access
to your information, including your parents, teachers, employer(s), the police and strangers, some of whom might
be dangerous.
You will be able to find all the information and tips you need to protect yourself, your friends and your family
against the potential for online trouble on this page.
Meeting people offline
We believe in the phrase "stranger is a friend that you haven't met yet" and that's one of the reasons why we have created WAYN website, simply to help you make new friends based on where you are now, where you have been and where you are going!
However we also believe in being precautious when meeting strangers. Therefore, in order to protect our members, we have prepared a number of key guidelines for your safety.
Please see our top 8 tips you should keep in mind before meeting up with someone met online:
- Watch out for people who pressurise you to meet instantly, try to obtain your personal details and/or contact information, contradict themselves or are inconsistent with their profile information or in contact with you.
- Even if you really like someone, don't think that you should refrain from running a background check on them. It's better to be safe than sorry! Therefore, try to find out more about the person you are about to hook up with, via the web, friends, mobile phone, etc. Remember never to blindly trust what you are being told and not to rely on a single source of information!
- Never meet people alone, always choose public place and let a friend or family member know where you are going and when should you be back.
- Before meeting up, try to arrange a phone conversation with the person you are to see and try to sense their intentions.
- Always remember to carry your mobile phone with you.
- Avoid drinking alcohol during your first meeting, as it can cloud your judgment.
- Trust your instincts. If you feel uncomfortable or the person does not resemble who they previously stated they are, avoid feeling sympathetic and politely end your meet-up.
- Never take chance on your safety! It's good to be precautious. If the person you are meeting up with is genuine, they will understand your concerns.
Note: take your safety seriously and always research online for further tips and information.
Please be advised that WAYN strongly discourages under 18 year-olds to meet anyone offline without permission from a parent or guardian, even if accompanied by others.
