My first trip to Athens was after a long journey from Rome by train and boat. The length of time it took to get there made me wonder whether it was worth the trouble. We arrived late at night but as soon as we went for breakfast in the roof top restaurant the following morning, I realised the trip was worthwhile. There are so many fascinating sights to visit - the ancient agora, the acropolis, the Plaka, the Temple of the Olympian Zeus, to name but a few. It's amazing so much history crammed into such a small place.
