Recent disease H1N1 in Asia region especially Thailand has caused thousand of travelers keeping themselves from visiting Thailand. However, I was visiting Hatyai on 18/7/09 without fear at all. Arriving Hatyai on the day, and saw the shopping centers were not crowded neither the streets. Some thai drivers & food resellers were wearing mask. Anyhow, I did not feel any threat in the town, believed the H1N1 only outbreak in bangkok/pataya, Hatyai might be yet to be, or Hatyai town council has taken all precautions measurement? Good luck and happy traveling to those who are going to visit Hatyai during the "red alert time".

I stopped off at Hat Yai for one night on my way to Songkhla, staying at Lee Garden Plaza Hotel. A relatively good hotel with swimming pool. Double room with ac was only 1150b per night including breakfast. The rooms are slightly dated. The local Thai restaurants are pretty good and also very cheap. You can get a tuktuk (not the same as the tuktuks in bkk) to anywhere in the city for about 20 to 30b.
