Polonnaruwa is one of the ancient capitals in Sri Lanka. After the Anuradhapuraya era, It begins the Polonnaruwa era in the history of Sri Lanka. The “Parakramabaahu” the great is the most powerful king of the Polonnaruwa era. Polonnaruwa is rich in a strong irrigation system and well-planed buildings thank to the ancient rulers. The lake “Parakrama Samudraya” is one among many lakes in the area. Lake called "Kala vewa" is a wonderful place to view near Polonnaruwa. It kept a bit far from Polonnaruwa a village called Minneriya. This Kala vewa was built by King Dhathusena before a few centuries .
