Ancient City...  by Aruna`    27th Oct 08
Anuradhapura is ancient capital of Sri Lanka. There are lots of historical places. Problem is you can not see all the places in one time. If you are really want to study on historical places you should be there at least 3 days.

Buddhist Temples  by Dinesh    19th Sep 08
I was there in 2005, 2006 and 2008. It was a nice journey. We went there by train and we watched Ancient Buddhist Ruins. In Sinhala we called "Atamastane". That mean there are 8 places of Lord Buddhas. We bathed from Nuwara wewa one of Large Lake in Anuradhapura.

Anuradapura  by Ranjika    6th Jul 08
This is a wonderful place to see the ancient splendour of Sri Lanka. The ruins of palaces, Dagaba (pagodas), huge reservoirs(wewa) constructed by kings to collect rain water, Sri Maha Bodiya (One of the oldest trees in the world). The reservoirs are still being made use for cultivation, bathing and drinking purposes as this is the dry Zone.

The City of Anuradhapuraya  by Suranga    27th May 08
No other city has a proud history than Anuradhapuraya in Sri Lanka. In the ancient Sri Lanka (Ceylon), Anuradhapuraya is the most splendid kingdom and the center point of the civilization of Sri Lanka. It is royalty was spread over 700 years. The king “Dutugamunu” was the most powerful and well-known king in the Anuradhapuraya kingdom. Anuradhapuraya is a city that was dedicated to the “Buddhist Bikkhus” (Buddhist monks). Therefore, it is one of the sacred cities in Sri Lanka. The royal garden “Mahameuna Uyana” in the middle of Anuradhapuraya was fully occupied by “Buddhist Bikkhus”. Temples, Statues, sky rising “Daagaba” can be seen in everywhere. The city of Anuradhapuraya was completely destroyed by the European-Christian invaders. Later some of the national hero like “Anagarika Dharmapala”, “Walisinghe Harishchandra” involved in the re-construction of the Anuradhapura city trying to bring it back to the royalty which it had previously and they succeeded.
