Almaty almighty!  by Geoff    7th Oct 08
A must place to visit especially at the start of spring when the tulips start to flower. Just magnificent. The varieties of beer are astounding also to an Australian like me. The women are amongst the most beautiful I have ever seen in the World but can be standoffish until you break the language barrier. Prices there in Almaty are very high compared with Western countries but when you consider the isolation, it's no wonder that the greater percentage of commodity costs are transport. Beam me up Scotty and take me back there!!

Moving ahead  by Paul    18th Mar 08
Worked there for 5 years Bautino, Visited Almaty and found it to be a totally different place from the rest. It does not fully represent the poverty in the rest of the country, They are heading in the right direction but will be many years before they achieve true democratic status. Doing a lot better than other CIS countries
