soon to be my town  by Akiko    13th Feb 09
Kamakura became a capital of the first samurai state in Japan 1180 - 1192. Since the Kamakura shogunate built many temples, it is popular as an ancient city with many beautiful temples, and a tourist city near Tokyo. There is a huge ginkgo tree which is 1000 years old by Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine's stone steps. Ceremony of the Minister was held on January 27, 1219 at night. When a ceremony finished, Third General Sanetomo Minamoto was assassinated by Son of Yoritomo Minamoto, the first General, because Sanetomo was his father's enemy. You can see that ginkgo tree even now.
