Jordan`s heritage stretches back to the dawn of mankind. It is a legacy that overwhelms not only tourists but archaeologists and historians . Each invading society has left its own mark . From earliest times, when man roamed across what today is Jordan , the sweeping plains became a crossroads between Asia & Africa. Anyone visiting Amman for the first time will be surprised above all by the hills. The mental image of a middle eastern capital set on a dusty plain must be discard , for Amman lies on a high plateau of 850m. built originally seven hills on whose slopes they lie. The city is dotted with a number of historic sites from stone age to the Greek , Roman , Byzantine and Islamic eras. Each is considered interesting in its own way . The first impression you get as you arrive is that of a modern city with limestone and concrete buildings , and well maintained cars cruising wide streets.

Only a short hour's drive north of Amman is the Graeco -Roman city of Jerash (Gerasa in ancient times). This ancient city of Jerash is remarkable for its unbroken chain of human occupation. At a well - watered site in the hills of Gilead, one will find remains from Neolithic times, as well as Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Omayyad and others. Jerash's golden age, however, arrived with Roman rule, and today it is acknowledged as one of the best-preserved Roman provincial towns in the World. One can walk beneath four imposing gates, or down the "Street of Columns" north from the Oval Plaza while stepping over the tracks of chariot wheels still visible in the paving stones.

Is an archaeological site in Arabah, Ma'an Governorate, Jordan, lying on the slope of Mount Hor[1] in a basin among the mountains which form the eastern flank of Arabah (Wadi Araba), the large valley running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. It is renowned for its rock-cut architecture. Petra is also one of the new wonders of the world.
