Lucca is a small city in italy, with a historical medieval walled-in town within the city. the historical city is everything you imagine italy to be (and is definitely the part of town to visit): narrow streets lined with cobblestones, tall buildings, wash hanging out on the line. it's a perfect italian city.
Lucca is a beautiful walled city in Tuscany. Only 30 minutes from Pisa with an excellent bus service. The walls are so wide that you can actually drive a car along them although most people prefer to walk or cycle. I'm not really certain that driving is legal. The people are very friendly and helpful and if you want a taste of real life have lunch in the Trattoria Leo not far from the Chiesa San Michele. The service is quick and cheerful and the vibrancy of Italian life is everywhere, plus which the food is excellent and very reasonably priced.
