Bukit Kaba  by Yanti    16th Sep 08
Bukit Kaba Volcanic Crater, 104 km from Bengkulu and about 19 km from Curup, Bukit Kaba lies 1937 m above sea level. There are two immense sulfuric calderas with twelve active craters. Beautiful panoramic views and cool mountain air make this a pleasant stop for a couple of days. There are popular hot springs near Curup at Suban

Pleasant surprise  by Kevin    18th Jul 08
This is part of Indonesia often forgotten by Indonesians. The city has a couple of hundred residents. It is located at the seafront, with lovely beaches. It is unpolluted and the people are very friendly. The city has an interesting Syiah community - quite rare in Indonesia, and some interesting road way decorations. Fort Marlborough reminds us that this was once part of the British SE Asian empire, but was swapped (for Penang I think) with the Dutch to "tidy the maps". In more modern history we can see Father of the Nation Sukarno's house when he was exiled to Bengkulu.
