Eger is one of my favourite cities in Hungary. I've been there several times, and I'm sure I visit it again. This is a city in northern Hungary, the county seat of Heves, east of the Mtra Mountains. Eger is best known for its castle, which became an important border fortress during the Turkish occupation of Central Hungary. Eger was successfully defended by Hungarian forces. You can read a very interesting novel of it; its title is Egri csillagok, "stars of Eger" by the author Gardonyi Geza, who was a writer19th century. His tomb can be seen near here, too. If I travel to Eger, I visit tits thermal baths, historic buildings (including for example the Turkish minaret, Basilica, Dobo square, etc.). If you like you can taste red and white wines in the so called Szepasszonyvolgye, where you can find several wine cellars. I hope you will like this charming city, too.
