Hvar is a fun, beautiful island that I am mad for. I go to visit my family every year in Italy I will now be sure to take the short ferry(about 31/2 hours) across to this gem. I'm in love with it:-))
When you travel to Croatia, expect simple, run into complicated, and receive simple on the end. Coast? Must see it. Islands, absolutely. Forget complicated think simple, enjoy what is there, smell the air, look at the water. Sharks? None! Find old 'konoba' drink some local wine and find bliss or maybe find the local nightclub and sweat your worries out. Anyway you will find something if look for it and it will be wonderful.
Most of my family lives in Croatia and I've been there many times to all different places. Trogir/Dubrovnik is a must see because the Adriatic is beautiful, like no other place on earth...There is a big carnival in August with great food, costumes and parades. When going inland I suggest going to the capital city Zagreb. Visit the downtown area where all the shops and cafe's are. If you go further north about 2 hours into the countryside, near the city of Varazdin is a beautiful castle that has much of the original furniture in it. It is called Trakoscan and they charge a small fee to get in, but its worth it to see the castle. Plitvica Lakes is a national park...it is a GORGEOUS place with lots of waterfalls and beautiful green scenery and hot springs. In the city of Varazdin, if you wish to go to a great spa, I recommend going to visit Varazdinska Toplica. This is a hot springs resort where you can stay, like a hotel, with a restaurant and many spa treatments available.
