Hamburg, Germany

As a harbor city located in the far north of Germany, Hamburg has been known for centuries as the "gateway to the world." One of Hamburg's most famous sons, novelist Wolfgang Borchert, lovingly described the city as "more than a heap of stones, roofs, windows, beds, roads, bridges and street lamps. It is more than factory chimneys and traffic jams—more than the screeching of seagulls, ... more info

Hamburg 2006  by Shy    15th Jul 08
Hamburg is port city. Not so clean but very systematic, well we are talking about Germans here. We went to Transport Dept on license issue, its take 20 minutes to get new license. Islamic halal food might be a problem, but we settle down with a lot of fish.

Hamburg (German language: pronounced [ˈhambʊʁk], Low German/Low Saxon: Hamborg [ˈhaˑmbɔːχ], English: [ˈhmbəˑg]) is the second-largest city in Germany (after Berlin) and along with Hamburg Harbour, its central port, Hamburg is also the second-largest port in Europe (after Rotterdam), ninth-largest port in the world, and the most populous city in the European Union which is not a national capital. The city contains an approximate 1.8 million inhabitants.

Happy times in Hamburg  by Colleen    17th Apr 08
Fairly mild to warm - but can get hot and sticky at Wacken during the summer time (which is the time I went). The place itself is a very convenient jump off point for the Wacken Open Air festival (Heavy metal festival held in August, in a town called Wacken, which is just North of Hamburg), but it can also be a destination in itself.

While I have had no major mishaps re. the festival, it pays to take the following advice: 1. Rehydrate - the festival is in the middle of summer, so it pays to drink plenty of fluids; 2. Be sensible with alcohol; 3. Be careful in the moshpit; 4. Stay away from the desperate annoying guys; 5. Be friendly, but not too friendly, with other patrons 6. If in trouble, inform security staff or volunteers. cheers Log Snapper
