Calais is very underrated as a town, much nicer than people give it credit for. Friendly people, if you get into difficulty in French the locals will be happy to help you in English. Try the French first though, I think it makes a difference. Go down thew D940 towards Boulogne Sur Mer, charming little village called Escalles.

Took a day trip over from Kent for the shopping No other reason. Went there and topped up with wine cheese and more French food. The area around the port is expensive but a stroll into other areas and the prices drop slightly. There is plenty of shops to choose from and a good few hours spent here before catching the ferry back. Well worth it and nicer than some other areas of France. Its more than a Ferry port.

Only here for the day. Nice to experience a different side of France. Lovely to sit in the cafes although was a little expensive. Good day out though.

Keep a look out for the group playing Irish music called Les Emeralds. Next event will be at L'Absinthe Calais Nord in February.
