Beautiful City  by Bryan    12th May 08
If you arrive by car from the north, down the A690 and you catch your first glimpse of the cathedral as you come over the hill near the Giles Gate, you get the impression of a grand old city and Durham is. It is one of England's nicest cities and it is steeped in a long history. The locals are among the friendliest in England and you can have a great night out in the city. Good pubs, clubs and restaurants are everywhere, some with a price to match too. Well worth a visit and a great stopping off point before heading north to Scotland.

Durham city  by Daniela    2nd Dec 07
Beautiful city and university town in North England. I love it! The castle and the ancient cathedral by the river make it ever so beautiful.

there is an amazing tree carving of the last supper, by the river, you can only see it properly when you sit in the carved seat, someone was very skillful, interesting little museum further along the river, and near the tree grove is an ancient holy well. well worth the visit would love to go again
