Cook Islands  by Leo    19th Jul 08
The main population centres are on the island of Rarotonga (c.10,000), where there is an international airport. There is also a much larger population of Cook Islanders in New Zealand, particularly the North Island; in the 2006 census, 58,008 self-identified as being of ethnic Cook Island Māori descent.[2] With over 90,000 visitors travelling to the islands in 2006, tourism is the country's number one industry, and the leading element of the economy, far ahead of offshore banking, pearls, marine and fruit exports. Defence is the responsibility of New Zealand, in consultation with the Cook Islands and at its request. In recent times, the Cook Islands have adopted an increasingly independent foreign policy.

Aitutaki  by Daniele    21st Apr 08
I've been in Aitutaki for about 2 months this year. It is just perfect. Locals are friendly and nature is awesome! Aitutaki is a little island, just about 2.000 habitants so don't expect a busy life there.. but that's the amazing thing about Aitutaki... it's a place we almost can't find nowadays... away from noise, poluition, havy trafic and all this kind of things. It's paradise.. quiet and peaceful. U can check some pics at my profile...

Tropical Paradise  by Faydra    15th Apr 08
Raratonga is the largest island of the Cook Islands. It takes 24 hours of flight time. 3000 miles south on Hawaii. The people there are very cool. They speak English with a New Zealand accent. They worship the "Fertility God" It is a tiki - looking statue with a big (you know what) They drive on the opposite side of the road. To rent a moped or vehicle, you have to take a oral driving test. Whoever signs up for the day's test follows a 1/2 mile route and is watched by a Raratongan police man which is following close behind. The license they give you has your picture on it and expires on your next birthday. Snorkeling was my thing. I snorkeled at least 2-3 times a day! It was so beautiful.
