The old city is charming, though there is an aura of abandonment around. Nice architecture and cobblestone streets, great for a walk to the city's past. The hotel Hebros is an excellent place to stay - uniquely decorated rooms and a great restaurant with delicate flavored dishes.. Highly recommended!
I've been living in Plovdiv for almost a year...My husband's business started there...The local are different - the town is the second largest one in Bulgaria. The prices also could me different - many tourists are coming to Plovdiv during all the year. The old part of the city is amazing - beautiful, ancient, cultural, historical...a lot to be seen...the main pedestrian street offers you a lot of shops, restaurants, banks, cafeterias...and an amazing fountain with spectacular views...The best hotel is Trimontzium, 2 steps away from the Main pedestrian street, the 2nd good hotel is hotel Bulgaria - located on a small street near the main pedestrian street. The local don't like dogs that's why you'll see many cats on the streets.
If get to Plovdiv make sure you have a reliable guide (translator)!!!
