We were 2 times in Balchik! But in September is a great moment for visit. The water is still hot, there aren't many tourists and the prices are low enough. We stayed at hotel Mistral which is located on the promenade - next to the harbor. The views from the hotel room were spectacular - you can see them on my profile. The Balchik castle with its gardens is a must! There are some Romanian tourists coming here for 1-2 days trip. If you come here try to go to Kavarna - is another small town above Balchik but is not so beautiful. Is peaceful and great for families with children!
