Manaus is the capitol of the state of amazonas. it was the main city during the rubber era and today is a major industrial city in the north of brazil with tax exemptions for the development of the amazon region. manaus is the main town and link for tourism in the amazon region.
After reading the guidebooks I was expecting a trip into a city full of history and spectcular buildings. I was surprised! It was nasty and run down, cleary I was a century too late. The Treatro Amazonas was beautiful and I enjoyed an evening of music there. It was worth the trip but I could not rcommend anything else.
