If you have the time, I strongly recomend a visit to Holbox, go to the bus station and take a bus (about 3 hours) it is worth it!

Do not stop on your way out of the airport. Go right to your car/van or bus.

only use the cab from the airport and not someone will give you a ride. better to have your transportation set up in advance.

Can't help much on this one since, I only went to Cancun during a cruise taken in early 2000. It is too commercialize now.. I think I would take up w/ what Rayne is recommending. Also, if you got the time, go to any local library & request for a Video/CD about Cancun or the Reference section for books on how to travel to such places. I would advice to photocopy all your pertinent documents in case of emergency or what not. Get an insurance (travel/car, etc) ask your travel agent on any tips. Water, ahhh...if no watered bottle, just drink pop/soda or anything bottled or can "w/o the eyes" as precaution!!! Stay in groups or w/ someone (am not thinking of the bad thinks ok,) at least a companion to be w/ or experience w/. Learn a few local words, it is fun.. Dont feel stuck up, they can sense that.. you are there to explore & have a good experience. They will reciprocate & glad to offer assistance. Know your currency & give a tip when necessary; well appreciated. Take only
