Barcelona 's tip about Vientiane, Laos 11th Nov 2008

We've been in Vientiane, in first November. Really if you have never been before in Laos, is a nice city. Probably not as nice as Louang Prabang... if you want to travel there, better do first Vientiane and then Louang Prabang. They has a nice market, nice temples, and nice Laotian people everywhere. Airport is easy and not far from city. You can move there by TUK TUK, is not expensive. There are also many good restaurants.
I meet there a nice friend from WAYN and we went to dinner in a Laotian restaurant. Lunch was great and the pleasure to meet my internet was the best.

Laos is a small country, but I can say it's very nice and peaceful country, Lao people are very nice and kind, you can see the real culture, if you come to Laos, it's very easy to travel around the country, but first you should come to Vientiane Capital, there are many places to visit and easy to travel. Hi Munie. It's OK to go to Luangprabang, if 4d3n, but you should book your ticket from any travel company, which date you want to fly to and back Luangprabang, then when you arrive VTE, you just go and buy the ticket from the company you booked and show them the code, I think you know this well. Spent 1 night in VTE and 3 nights in Luangprabang. Welcome to Laos.

Tony 's tip about Vientiane, Laos  (with reference to Shuttles & Transfers, IT, Attractions, Restaurants) 19th Mar 2012

There are a lot of nice things to see and do in Vientianne, have a look at all the markets along the Mekong River and bars and restaurants etc. There are many inexpensive, but clean and tidy hotels, with tariffs typically $25.00 to $30.00 / day.
Some local customs that you must observe, such as always remove footwear when you enter a person's home or a monastery (especially), never put your feet on a table, or enter a place where people are sitting on the floor and stand over them - sit down with them so you are at the same level. Also it is extremely rude to touch somebody's head and never cough or clear your throat whilst dining...

I have to say that Louang Prabang is the nicest city in Laos (and one of the nicest cities in the world). But Vientiane is very nice too. Starting with the gentle people and ending with the good loatian food. Not so rich concerning monuments as other parts in Laos (the city was destroyed by the thais in XIX century), there is still that amusing stupa ex-libris of the city and the arch. For the ones missing european beer, i advice a pub named Banana Blues, runed by a british guy. Have a nice trip and dont miss Prabang. Sabbai dee!

Vientiane and Laos in general is a really nice place to visit. It's not because there are so many tourist attractions, there aren't, but you'll experience a South-East Asian country with a colonial history which let's you have the best of two worlds. Asian and French culture, food and architecture and the amazingly friendly people of Laos. Don't miss it!
