The attraction at Varadero, for me, is the golf course. The hotels are all fine (I've stayed in 3 of them ). There are rare complainers about the food (all inclusive) but I suspect that they overeat and become jaded. It's a friendly place to meet people, fellow tourists and staff. I have seen the recommendation to rent a scooter, and I second that recommendation. It is the end of December now, and I will be returning to Varadero in about 3 weeks. Golf with buddies. It may be a bit cool for the beach (mid 20`s C, places like Santiago are warmer) but perfect for golf.

3 star Breezes Varadero (where I will be in 3 weeks) 4 star Melia Varadero 5 star Melia Los Americas (beside golf course) I have stayed at all 3. One golfing buddy needs the little pluses of the 5 star, but all are good for golf.

All inclusive resorts are wonderful! Rent a scooter to go into town to the markets. Fun! Fun! Warm friendly people too!

I usually go to a friends place to eat really amazing food at their house. The best part of the trip is to party & relax with the locals. They are very friendly and make you fell very welcome.

I use www.frommers.com as a supplement to other web sources when planning a trip. The introduction sections usually provide a lot of useful information about the places you're visiting, including customs, history, and other things. They generally have very good comprehensive coverage of key points in any given city or region.
I also recommend these sites to get more info & comparisons too

Dont miss the fresh lobster with the local people. For few dollars you can be "invited" to a family house. Giving pencils to childrens is a nice way to conect with the local people.

Nice white beaches, ocean was great. I stayed at the Barcelo solimar. Hotel and food were ok. There were a lot of Mosquitos so bring bug spray.
