I am from this lovely part of the world, the scotland of the east. Shillong is also the fashion capital of india and the rock capital of india. Fashion and music is in the blood of shillongites. Moreover it is the largest hill station in asia and the second largest in the whole world after brasilla. It also has the largest man made lake in asia, the Barapani Lake and hydro power project. Home to millions of flora and fauna. It is known to have the largest number of orchids in the world. Apart from that shillong knows the maximum species of butterflies. Winters one can cherish the taste of the famous oranges from shillong.

Shillong is the capital Meghalaya. The lush green blanket covered hills are feast to the eyes. Meghalaya is one of the states of India consisting of three hill regions (Kharo hills, Khasi hills and Jayanty) Each of these hill regions has its own unique tradition and culture. Meghalaya has the largest rain fall (Meghalaya means the abode of clouds / place of clouds). The combination of largest rain fall and the hills has resulted wonderful waterfalls in Meghalaya. Many of them is in Chirapunjee (around 2 -3 hours drive from Shillong). Meghalaya also has awesome natural caves. . . and it is awesome to walk through those caves. . . many of it are still remains undiscovered. The steep hills topped by clouds is a wonderful sight while travelling in Meghalaya. One of the cleanest village is in Meghalaya, they proudly welcome visitors to their little village. Any one who visits Meghalaya will be wonder struck by the nature, in it's pureness and beauty.

SHILLONG - what can I say? The most breath taking and beautiful sites I have seen are in Shillong. The drive from Guwahati to Shillong is absolutely amazing. Then on to Sohra/Cherapunji is absolutely awesome. I loved it here. I have come with my wife and it was a refreshing change for the both of us from the hustle bustle of the plains.
Would love to be back anytime I could.

Shillong is the Scotland of East as the name suggest it is the dreamland as discovered by the britisher during their colonial rule and carries every every memento of their legacy. Mowchinram , Cherapunzyare most wettest place on earth surface located just a few hours off shillong. The lime cave are the one of the most exciting destination of adventure lover to explore under ground ....one has to be careful not to loose track ...there is every chances of loosing tack and getting lost....Happy exploring.....

I feel Shillong is one of the best places to have a short weekend trip or a customary holiday around guwahati. The charm of this hill station lies in its climate and the exotic terrain...places which one should not miss to visit are The Shillong Peak, The elephants Falls, Police Bazar(advised for shopping clothes at very cheap prices). cherrapunji which is about an hour drive from Shillong is even more awesome n worth visiting if u r in Shillong...

Shilliong is not the shilling I had know and heard about. Things have changed dramatically, the crowd, traffic jams and lack of scenic beauty within city was appealing. However, one can use Shilliong as a transit and go to nearby places for trekking, caving and sight seeing.
