also if you are feeling patriotic, go check out the border @ Tanot - about 3-4 hours drive from Jaisalmer... visit the Tanot Mata temple and see the bunkers on your way.. a moving experience for me!

camel ride is a strange experience. we are mounting the camel when it sits on the ground almost in lying position. when the camel rises up it is a steep vertical movement and you are likely to fall off unless you hold on tightly to the hump. in fact my five year old daughter fell down but nothing happened . it is sand down there and all over.
desert is in fact a sea of sand . you should see it . difficult to describe to someone who has not seen it.

we had been to jaisalmer with family about ten years back. jaisalmer is the opening to desert coutnry . great place. camel ride and all that . we went by train . it took almost half a day to reach there . we returned in the evening. desert is unimaginably beautiful. every one should see it at least once.

Jaisalmer is an unique destination because of two things. One, it’s proximity to the famous thar sand dunes and another, probably, the only living fort in India. That’s why I titled this review, "History..

The Haveli , fort , temples , ponds , monuments all so captivating .....good stuff to shop too ...get ready for bargain. Dont miss the sam [sand dunes] , try to visit on moonlight so that after sun set u can enjoy the moonlight and safari.

Visit the Sam Sand Dunes, approx an hour and a half away... stay overnight at one of the 'resorts/camps' nearby and soak in the culture and the beauty of nature..
Go for the camel ride at sunrise (not just sunset) and eat local cuisine, which I personally love!
