I go to Xiamen quite frequently and it is indeed a fine city. Gu Lang Yu island is of course an essential and is certainly a very plesant place to walk around and explore. I also had the benefit of being taken to the Tan Kah Kee 陈嘉庚 museum at Jimei, Xiamen and would say it was well worth a vist. He was a famous industrialist and philanthropist and the museum presents his fascinating life story and achievements very effectively.

I lived in Xiamen for about two years to study Chinese language and I really like to live there. The city is the cleanest city in China. The GU LANG YU islet is worth to visit, it has beautiful beaches and spectacular view. If you go inside further the island, you can see some old properties and buildings which built on early 1900.
Zhongshan road is the best place to hang out on weekend, you can go shopping, eating and play computer games or chatting on internet. There are a lot of Internet café.

When i first came to Xiamen, i surprised to see the people are very slim, I think the reason is TEA. They really love to drink tea, especially OOLONG TEA and TEA GUANYIN.

I really liked this very beautiful city. The beaches are covered in light golden sands, and edged with blue green sea. I found it quite amusing to see people had climbed up the trees to take a mid-day nap... didn't look too uncomfortable either.
I didn't feel comfortable to sunbathe on the beach unfortunately. Locals were swimming and others were taking a walk along the edge of the sea with their shoes off, but since I'd walked half an hour to get there with the sole intention of sunbathing I was a bit disappointed that no one else was. I laid out on my beach towel in my bikini for about 2 minutes before the amount of people pointing and commenting made me feel too uncomfortable.
I did however, enjoy a lovely evening at watching an Orchester, and a wonderful day at the Expo Gardens which were beautiful and really interesting. A great place for taking photos!
I also took a ferry to visit the music Island which is again a unique experience, and very much recommended.
