Johannesburg is NO different from any city in the world, what you find in New York or Tokyo, you will find in Johannesburg. Crime, there is crime everywhere. Poverty, again you'll find that everywhere too.
DON'T be afraid BE alert DON'T prejudge BE open REMEMBER you are your own person & that your experience will always differ from anyone else's. KNOW that the people of South Africa are warm & welcoming and if you have queries or need advice, most of us are very approachable & willing to help.

Yes JHB is not for the weak hearted and I envy you I was in Bankok too but you have too be streetwise as there is lots of prostitution. If you end up in the clubs you have to pay your way out.

I know for a fact that South Africa is one of the friendliest countries in the world. Our people are amazing. Just as in any other country you get your people who do not respect the lives of others. Just be always on the look out and be carefull. Lock your vehicles. Dont leave your handbags on the seats of the vehicles and just take good care of your belongings. We have done it in the soccer world cup and we are doing it every day.

I have close friends from Italy, Austria, Russia and South Africa living in Ghana, doing extremely well and loving it for it's freedom. Guess people experience different things from one another.

What is the best photographer safari recommend for one day ?

Roger Millhouse from Bratislava, Slovakia Roger
Hi. You could go to the 'Lion Park' only about 30 min from Joburg. Or, I agree about Pilansberg and then wander around Sun City and the Lost City. Plenty of good photographic opportunities.
