Minneapolis is a city to visit at least once. The most common places to visit are the Mall of America, The Sculpture Garden, the Metrodome and the Guthrie. It does have more than 10,000 lakes but you'll enjoy walking around Lake Calhoun and Lake Harriet.
Stop by the area of Uptown, there are lots of trendy restaurants and stores but don't miss the opportunity to visit downtown and get lost in the Skywalk maze
Winters are harsh! And during the summer, the humidly and the mosquitoes will torture you.

I second the recommendation of the Dakota Jazz Club. I've performed in a number of clubs around the U.S. and the Dakota is one of the most beautiful of them all. For more of an old-school, dark and gritty jazz club experience, hit the Artists' Quarter over in St. Paul.

Don't just walk around the lakes — rent a canoe or kayak on Lake Calhoun and paddle on Calhoun, beautiful Lake of the Isles, and through the canal to Cedar Lake.

If baseball interests you, catch a game at Target Field, which is lovely on a summer evening. And don't forget to spend some time in the parks along the Mississippi River, both on the Minneapolis and St. Paul sides, including Minnehaha Falls.

All the previous recommendations about Minneapolis are excellent places to stop and visit and there are also plenty of local places to go eat as well, there is Eat Street along Nicollet avenue it has many small restaurants and bars to choose from and eat. The Minneapolis Institute of arts is one of my favorites it has a nice coffee shop where you can get a bite to eat, you can try the LOCAL on Nicollet Mall and 9th street nice Pub and decent price on the food. Have fun there is plenty to do and see.

If you like arts, although the sculpture garden and walker are excellent, the Minneapolis Institute of Art is VERY LARGE (near 24th and Nicollete Ave and nearly impossible to visit everything in a single day. Make a plan on what you want to see. (Also its FREE!)

If food is your thing, try Solera at the Gutherie. It is exquisite, although if your looking for a $5 meal, you will be disappointed, Think more $8-10 (But it is WELL WORTH the splurge!) or you could grab a bite to eat at the "Coffee Gallery" at the Open Book on 1011 Washington ave. near the Metrodome.
