I am from Melbourne, Australia and now live in Dongguan. I chose Dongguan because it is small yet convenient. Standard of living is good if you are an expat. 5 star hotel costs less than RMB500 p.n. Long term (>= 30 days) rate is RMB300+. Lifestyle here is layback compared to other big Chinese cities. Good food costs much much less than Melbourne, but imported wine is expensive.

I used to live in Dong Cheng, Dongguan City. I love it as the City is not congested and is nicely spread with lots of parks. It is clean and has lovely property developments. The towns and counties are more unsightly. Foot massages are great and cheap!

Dongguan is very spread out and has 32 counties or districts; becos of the closeness to Shenzen and Guangzhou; Dongguan has benefited from the overflow of business activity and is relatively close to Hong Kong. It has several transportation link to Hongkong via ferry, land transport and train. With the business activity comes the local entertainment. Tourism in the area is not big but is fast developing to cope with the business needs. Most travellers for the conventions held in the neighbouring cities goes to Dongguan for cheaper rooms.

Dongguan is one of the fastest growing cities of China. It is very well laid out and communication and transport to any part of China is very convenient. Dongguan itself is a laid back town with all the conveniences of the city. The weather is good the food is good and the traffic is very well controlled. I love dongguan. You can choose whether you want a sporting life, a night life or just to relax and live your life peacefully.

Dongguan is in fact an industrial city, full of opportunity! Lots of Chinese move down to Dongguan to find their dreams and fortunes! It is also a city of action, entertainment is all around the city itself. Food are really cheap compare to some major cities in China!
