Can warmly recommend a visit to Chiang Mai & northern Thailand, as the area has much to offer in many ways, either for its lively people or the good food or even the varied natural beauty including trekking, hiking, cycling facilities and other interests like handycraft making to name just few. For a clean, nice and low price accomodation i warmly recommend the Oasis Hotel. For more details or reservation on line see www.oasischiangmai.com !
cheers,
Walter.

I have visited the city on 3 different occasions as my wife Yuppadee originally comes from here, the people are always friendly towards me and the city in itself has much character to it, it is a great mix of new and old. There are many temples to see and visit and yet the next building can be a modern shopping mall.
I last visited during the famous 'Songkran' festival (Thai new year), sitting on the back of a pick-up with water pistols, buckets and any other item capable of throwing water at everybody in site is certainly one way of celebrating the new year (now why cant us Brits be more like that).
