Personal Note
Columban Lay Missionaries:
Columban Lay Missionaries are people whose faith calls them to share their life with the poor and marginalized. They are involved in the pastoral work of the community, in education groups, youth groups, health and human rights promotion, in environmental work and inter-faith dialogue.
‘As people of faith, we envisage a world where women and men of all races, cultures and creeds live life to the full, where there is inclusion, equality and justice for the poor, marginalized and oppressed and where communities and nations live in peace and harmony with each other and all creation.’
- Lay Mission Vision Statement. 2000
Irish Lay Missionaries have been sent to Korea, Chile, Pakistan and the Philippines. Ireland has received Lay Missionaries from Chile, Fiji, Korea and the Philippines.
Lay Missionary Identity:
We the Columban Lay Missionaries, an intercultural group of women and men, single and married, are called to respond to God’s mission by crossing boundaries of culture, gender, creed and race. We are sent as disciples of Jesus.
In partnership with one another. With joy, we witness to a new way of being church by finding and celebrating God’s loving presence as we seek to live a simple way of life and journey with the poor and marginalized.
