Way back in my teenage ,I started listening to vocalists from pakistan and that led to the yearning and urge to become a vocalist.I approached ustaad mohinder singh at Amritsar and started learning classical music.I used to spend my mornings before and evening after college with ustad ji.That led to my taste for refined music. After some time my college prof Mr. W.P.sharma introduced me to a gurbani teacher ,Ustaad Buta Singh ji.With him started my strenuous training in classical music.Meanwhile I started representing my college at various inter college,inter-university and national music competitions and it was in 1981 ,I was adjudged the best light classical vocalist of india.The urge went on and it did not stop.Then in 1981 mr rajan v kulkarni from gandharva mahavidhyalya came to my life as my teacher.he trained in a diffrent way and I was ready for radio and TV.Then my association with Radio and Doordarshan gave me time and chance to improve.The real shiksha came from Sh B.S.Narang the most accomplished vocalist of punjab gharana.From Yuv vani to B,B high and then productionRecoreded few albums and bhajans for Shreeramshrnam,produced few short films for DD.Scripted and anchored about 42 musical featuresand documentaries for DD and anchored most of them too.Then performed at few places in USA,recorded an album at nelia,famous portugese singer.They offerred a recording but had to go back to india.That labour is available at www.aksentertainment.com.The same year I invited jagjit singh ji to jalandhar.When he was requested to perform,as he knew abt my vocal cords resemble him,he made me sing with him on stage with him.meanwhile got a chance to interact and be with artists like Pt Bhim sen joshi,hari prasad chaurasia,rather all big shots of indian classical music at Harbalabh sangeet sammelans where i have been anchor for atleast 15yrs and played hosts to all great masters from pakistan who would luv to stay with me at my place as my late wife was an excellent hostess, even ustad fateh ali khan once said' aashi ur taste personified". I miss her.
