Frankly Shankly ...

"Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious than that"

Words spoken by the late, great Bill Shankly (manager of Liverpool FC 1959-1974).

He meant every syllable in that quote. The sheer passion of the man raised an entire team from the doldrums of 2nd division anonymity to the peaks of Europe. A passion that also stuck with the supporters. He was a man of the people in every sense of the word. He brought hope, joy, pride and respect to a city hit by hardships, unemployment and misfortunes. Not only did he implant the club on the world map, he did also bring it to the heart of supporters from all over the world, including yours truly. This is a heritage bigger than any money can buy!

Lest we never forget the man who made Liverpool FC great.

Famous Shankly, frankly quotes:
- "There are only two teams on Merseyside: Liverpool (first team) and Liverpool reserves"
- "A lot of football success is in the mind. You must believe you are the best and then make sure that you are!"
- "Me having no education. I had to use my brains."
- "What a great day for football, all we need is some green grass and a ball."
- "Liverpool was made for me and I was made for Liverpool."
- "Aim for the sky and you'll reach the ceiling. Aim for the ceiling and you'll stay on the floor."

Floydian thoughts ...

To me, the music and also the lyrics of Pink Floyd ring true. The pure genius of David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Richard Wright and Nick Mason have thrilled and enriched me throughout the years.

I will be adding thoughtful lyrics from various Pink Flyd tracks here, maybe they will strike a chord with You too?

- "For long you live and high you fly - But only if you ride the tide. And balanced on the biggest wave - You race towards an early grave." (Breathe - Dark side of the moon - 1973).

Personal Note

TERVE - CHEERIO - HEJ - PRIVET - SALUT - GRÜSS GUT - AVE - HOLA - DZIEN DOBRY - TERE - CIAO - GEIASSOU - DOBAR DAN - GOEDE DAG ...

My name is Joacim [yoo-ah-kim]. I am the local Sea bear from the Baltic Coast. Sea is my favourite element and also I am large as a bear (teddy bear I hasten to add).

I was born in Finland but have been living in Sweden ever since I was a nipper of 4 yrs ... but I do feel that my Finnish characteristics will always be with me!

As You will soon find out I do love snapping pictures. Some of them may end up here. I also get inspiration and enjoy learning from other WAYN member's photos. I also enjoy getting to meet/know new and interesting people, sharing day-to-day chit-chat, knowledge, traveling tips etc.

N.B. I am not here for dating, marriages and so on! NO!

As for traveling, I simply love Europe - a FANTASTIC continent, there is so much to see and experience here! I enjoy simple things like exploring different architecture, history, culture, languages. I love going to interesting museums, taking a river cruise, making excursions to countryside castles. In between all these "hectic" have-to-dos I don't mind enjoying a café latte at a roadside café or why not a glass of white wine. I hope to visit most (if not all) capital cities in Europe, so I still have a lot to loofk forward to. Am I boring You?

A bit old-fashioned? Spot on, in fact very much so! I am really keen on history: "Know Your history - and You will know Your future".

I am very much into (military) history, active in parades and re-enactments. I have been a member of the Royal Swedish Lifeguards Musketeers (1850's drill and battleformation) for 3 years, now I am transfering to a new outfit - The Smålands Karoliner (a further 150 years back in history). Combining my interest with these activities have led to some wonderful experiences as well as getting to know some wonderful characters.

All of this combined with worldly wisdom, Pink Floyd, dreams of Café del Mar and here I am.

Certifiable ...? Probably? Well, let's leave it at that ... for now ;-)

P.S. Sweden is a wonderful country but we have a saying that is also quite revealing:
- "Born free, taxed to death!"
