These beautiful giants travel all the way from Antarctica every southern hemisphere winter. They eat nothing for up to 6 months, stopping off in sheltered waters, most notably Hervey Bay, to calve and mate again, before returning to Antarctica. This photo is of a mother humpback and her baby. Incredibly they bring their baby close to the tourist boats...we don't know why...

Due to public demand , let me explain that to make the spiderman cake below, you use the chocolate cake recipe on my profile, double the quantity, bake for 80 minutes in a large springform pan. Then to get the REALLY red icing you need to obtain "Pillarbox Red" food colouring - please make your own judgements about what this may do to your hyperactive children. The webbing is made from licorice straps cut thinly and the eyes are obviously silver cachous...

Chocolate Cake
Feel privileged...I am famous throughout the Sunshine Coast for this cake:
125g melted butter 1 cup castor sugar (230g) 1 cup self raising flour (230g) ¼ cup cocoa (55g) ½ cup milk (125ml)
Grease 20cm ring pan, cover base with baking paper. Combine all ingredients in small bowl of electric mixer, beat on low speed until ingredients are combined. Then, beat on medium speed until mixture is smooth and changed in colour. Pour mixture into prepared pan. Bake in moderate oven (180 degrees C) about 40 minutes. Stand few minutes before turning onto wire rack to cool. Top cold cake with chocolate or lemon butter frosting (butter, icing sugar mixture, small amount of milk and cocoa or lemon.)
