Philadelphia is one hour and 30 minutes by train from NYC. (2 hours by bus or car.) The downtown area of Philadelphia is 15 min cab from the airport. So, it is easy to get here if exploring the East Coast of the U.S.A. Once here, don't need to rent a car. Very walkable downtown.

How safe is the downtown area? Where is the down town relative to the sports stations. I have been to the sports stations area in Philly but never downtown. What attractions are down town?

Downtown is safe. It is the second largest city on the East Coast, so still need to be city smart and not open your wallet and count your cash in the middle of the street. The sports stadiums are 1 mile south of the the downtown area. There is a safe subway that connect the center of the city to the stadiums. There is lots to see downtown. City is 3 miles wide from river to river, so you can walk from the Philadelphia Museum of Art to the Liberty Bell in 30 min.
