Apparently, that was what Xian was. It is noted for its architectural structures, eg the City Walls, the Bell and Drum towers; the Great Mosque; and for it's Terracotta Warriors (which I saw back in 1983 when they were exhibited at the Art Gallery of NSW, but wanted to see them in their original location).
