Soil conditions, water sources and how much you can get, pests and climate have to be considered. I worked in Thailand once and because of low rain fall we planted carrots instead of rice which brought in much more profits. Everything was done organically so the carrots could be sold for more then regular store bought carrots

Look particularly for what is known as "Added Value" both in production of standard markets as well as New product. An example of "Added Value" would be use of corn stalk in further added value producing Ethanol.

It is true that the farmer who produces our food gets the least in return. Clyde i would suggest to you to open or join a local Farmers Market so a fair return in monetary value can be acheaved by them.

I suggest you to pick a permananet place for the farmers to sell their goods to gets good returns for their hard work and they can sell their goods by themselves cheeper from the market. Furthermore they only have to pay the place that they use to sell their goods on that day only. They must not sell higher than the market or supermarket if they want to earn some money rather than they sell to other merchant that offers them. That is why farmers think if they sell to others is to safe their time, efforts. Actually they are sellind their hard work to them. Let's say I plant chillies 100 trees. After 3 months I starts to collect them and sell them to market. At first I sell them by my self. Time is running no more buyers wants to buy my chilies so I sell them all cheaper to them. I can use my remaining time do shopping or to buy other goods for my family needs. Its mean my hard day of working in the farm, I paid to them and they gets the credits for my work. They who sell my goods

To helps the local farmers if the merchants want to buy theirs goods, they must show their licence to the local farmers so that the person who buy can get some profits because they have licence. This is to avoid or to help the product will not get to the wrong hand and we as a user may buy at a reasonable price.

One of the ways to help farmers is to show them ways to increase their productivity per square meter of land cultivated/ 2 methods: French bio-intensive [look up author: John Jeavons ] and Square foot gardening [ look up author: Mel Bartholomew ]
