A very good way to increase your vocabulary is to chat with English spoken natives or English fluent speakers, just the way you are doing now. If you have Skype, my login is "edmourao". Don't worry if your vocabulary is short. Learn at least a few words everyday.

Talk with people speak good English.
Something that will help a lot also read short stories, it helps a lot with the past tense.
Once you know the basics, listen to songs in English is very good.
Learn the irregular verbs, which is one of the complicated parts.
