which camera is better.. normal digital or SLR ?

depends on what you know about photography, you don't get a person a Ferrari as soon as he/she learns how to drive... SLR's are professional or semi professional cameras...

That depend on what you like to take pictures of :) I use a SLR (Nikon D90) because then I can change the lince. But if you like to take long walks it might be a bit heavy. A smal compact cam with optical zoom can be as good.

I agree with what Lars Magne said, SLR is better in general but also more advanced in a sense meaning it can be more difficult. I love my SLR (Nikon D40), but sometimes miss having a smaller camera with me if on a hike or other activity where the SLR is simply too big, bulky and/or heavy. In other words: It depends when/where you plan to use it...

My camera is a DSLR, canon 600D but always use the manual mode. it depends on how you like to use it. If you like automatic, use digital. using SLRs let you learn about focusing on your subject... I'm an amateur, I don't know much about cameras so I hope I answered your question.

I would recommend you just buy DSLR. So that if you want to use automatic focusing use auto...

A system SLR camera is ok to start with. Ok for youth and seniors who have tried to take some pictures. When I started to take picture I started with a Nikon ME, with film :). If you are young or green then a compact camera with simple settings can be a litle more easy. But a digital camera you can take a lot more pictures without the film cost. When you take a lot of pictures you also have a greater opportunity to get a good or perfect picture. System camera has the advantage that one can replace the lenses so that one can take detailed pictures even if one does not come fully into the object one is trying to photograph. For those who like to have the opportunity to photograph the details is a camera with optical zoom preferred. Digital zoom functions tend to produce images with large pixel. One of the most important reasons why I mostly use my Nikon D90, is that I like to be able to fine-tune the depth of field and light in the picture. Simple compact cameras are now advanced, but mo

the end of my reply to Mustafa fall out :) But in short, most compact cam dos not let you change aperture and exposure time to fine-tune the depth of field, saturation and light in a picture.

Venkatesh, first sort out your priorities on what is your ambition. Do you want to be a professional photographer? If yes, then you should know the basics of photography in detail, if no, then you can opt for the aim and shoot cameras where there is no problem with the handling of the camera. DSLR cameras are a bit expensive and there is a need for different type of lenses. whereas the modern aim and shoot models are equipped with the latest technology, like 36x optical zoom along with macro functions. so first decide what you need and then go for the best.

it depends on what purpose u are using it for... normal digital camera can take good photos as well. for me... the most important thing is your observation to catch the precious scene of the things u come across !
