Helping and Fulfilling the needs of the needy is social work and organizing the need through the group of people is networking .This answer is only if we are talking about social service .

Dear GM ,Let us not look every body with the same thoughts ,it is how you are looking at the subject and your mind set . The money comes from the rich and willing people to the change the society. social service is by passion and not profession . Please do not look from one angel try to go into the depth of service.

Services are activities that are offered and normally there is a criteria that you have to satisfy to be able to access them whereas social networking is as mentioned above meeting with like minded people interested in a cetain activity.

Well said, I agree it is two fold some time one uses the community to get involved in a large project. Like I did in Burundi. I built a school using sandbags and a 100 members of the local community. We shared food, knowledge and how to build a building out of sand bags.
