How can i start

Marcel Millenaar from Amsterdam, Netherlands Marcel
I love Photography and usually will hold a camera every week, sometimes even every day. The technical side of it does have my interest and is also important if you want to master any situation, but the outcome is what its all about.
I started with photography when I was 12 years old and got the simplest camera you can think of. NO adjustment could be made, but it taught me to LOOK! and see the details in situations and displays.
If you make photographs for yourself and will not show them to others than I would focus on detail and the picture that will show what you want to remember…. If you want to make photographs, that other will see, then focus on the STORY behind the picture.

A photo made with that in mind, should not need any explanation from your side, but will make the viewer to SEE it.
[Beware and know that it is NOT important that is the exact story that goes with the picture. It is like reading a book… every reader has its one pictures with it]

I love traveling and

The Camera you'll have to buy, totally depends on the budget you have to spend. Off course Nikon or Canon will popup as first brands. I use Nikon, because they give me best value and ware ever I am in this world, there will be a shop that can help me if I need something or need a repair. To be honest I never had something broken in my camera’s, the only thing I do one’s a year is that they clean the mirror and CMOS-sensor. About the Megapixels… Oh yes they are important, but… GOOD lenses are even MORE important.
The better SLR camera’s will come with a minimum of 12+-megapixel sensor but if you don’t shoot as a professional you really don’t need that. Then it is better to go for a set of good lenses, filters and a tripod.

If you have room in your camera bag and don’t mind to take a heavy load, then use fixed focal instead of zoom lenses. They have a better aperture of f/1.6 or even of f/1.2. With the high ISO settings these days you don’t really need that anymore, but if you want to take photo’s in dark places without using flash you’ll need one of those, preferable a 50 or 70 mm one that also can be used for portraits.
On a normal holiday I’ll use my 17-70 and the 50-500 Sigma lenses, in a studio I’ll only use fixed focus lenses.
Good luck in choosing your Camera and lenses.
