It depends of your way of travelling. I am a biker so a tent of approx 3,5 kg is fine and then you still hacve a lot of space( 2 personstent with extra luggage can fit) If you are a hiker with a backpack, every kg you can save is good. You need a small tent of max 2,5 kg. I like a tunneltent because they are quick to set up and very solid . Also good are the iglo shaped tent, with the advantage they stand stable also when you can not use the pins with lines in the ground (rocks).

Rene I would like To add about tent we in Indonesia (tropic) we can use our rain coat as a very light tent and it is very easy(simple - need small area about 2 metetr square area) just tied the end of each rain coat end To a tree and 2 other to the ground I thing for cold weather you need the slipping bag (blanket)
