Before going somewhere on business, try to meet new friends in advance to cut down the costs and put more money in your pocket. Making new friends where you will be heading could lead to substantially lower accommodation costs as well as potentially lower food costs. Also, having a friend someplace else is good for stress relief. Especially if your schedule is hectic. I like the idea of a home cooked meal away from home. I also like the idea of staying with friends when I can to cut down on hotel costs. I also like having someone lined up that I can hang out with and see some of the local culture with. But it depends on your down time and what you do R&R wise.
