I can highly recommend both the Egyptian ancient ruins & Cambodia's Angkor Wat region. Both need several days to truly appreciate them.

What's the best place to do it?

Michael Cairns from Surrey, Canada Michael
Most of the countries I have visited have a rich heritage including monument construction in the past. Ayuttaya in Thailand, Gyeongju in Korea, Mayan Riviera in Mexico and Guatemala, are all phenomenal, beautiful and humbling to behold. For you, Thailand would be the easiest and least expensive place to start, I think. I would have gladly spent more time there. I would also recommend going in the rainy season - it is hot but less than summer, and fewer tourists to get in your way everywhere. Feel free to message if you would like any specific advice on places I have travelled to or lessons I have learned while travelling...

Coming from England there are a lot of castles to visit. There are castles and ancient ruins all over the world. It is fun to visit them and see the conditions our ancestors lived in. It reminds us not to complain when the car needs fixing or the dishwasher is broken.

Forget the pyramids.. Get yourself to Cambodia, Siem Reap ankor wat and the surrounding Brahman temple are truly fantastic.. Special effort to see them at sunrise or sunset should be made..

Visiting ancient ruins is a great experience, it is a great way of learning where we come from and there is such a magical energy in those places...it is worth the trip!
