exotic to me is just a place that is so different then what you are used to...somewhere that puts you in a different mindset, a different place and different culture. Read, learn about what moves you, find the passion and go explore

having a sense of history can help. Tremessos in Turkey was pretty amazing once you knew Alexander hadn't been able to conquer it. The Forbidden City in Beijing and Xian and the Terracotta Army, both invoke awe. The Colesseum, The Sistine Chapel. Valletta's Grand Harbour or The Peak in Hong Kong. A decent book and a guide can help a lot and people to share it with also help. It should be enjoyable and remind you that you're just passing through (so take a photograph so you can share it with others when you go home)

It' s great to go off the beaten tourist path and just be with the locals

I guessing everyone's idea of what is exotic is different. For some it is old cities, others the forest and jungles, or even a beach. But what ever your idea would love to hear what wonderful places you went to and what guidance you can give. Thank you
