Damien 's tip about Antananarivo, Madagascar  (with reference to Architecture, City Breaks, IT, History, Bus Travel) 20th Oct 2011

Antananarivo is an hilly city giving you a full laid back back feeling. Indeed most infrastructures and cars date back to the 80's. The city center, at the foot of surroundings hills is a big marketplace and a nice place to visit for colored photos and a first look at all the beautiful natural products Madagascar has to offer. Be careful there as it is also notorious for its pickpockets as young as 8 years old (usually they ask you to buy a plastic bag for your purchase and in the meantime try to reach you belongings with the hidden hand under the bags). My advice is to avoid any ostentation.

Madagascar is a truly unique and beautiful country, full of the friendliest people I have had the pleasure of meeting and great hospitality....

Don't go to Madagascar and expect great things because there is nothing really great about the country, there is extreme poverty, the infrastructure is near to non-existing and what ever you do don't me in a rush.

If you are looking for a place where you can see the most unique and amazing wild life in any of the many national parks, spend your time on sun drenched beaches or learn how little you really need to survive and still be happy then give Madagascar a go. I doubt that you will be disappointed

you seem very negative, there are many interesting places to visit, the beach of Ste Marie, N.B , and the south is so beautiful too !

Eugene  (with reference to Flying) 20th Dec 2011

Madagascar is very varied and has so many contrasts. The northern islands of Nosy be etc is more well known but also more touristy.
Tulear and the South is more out of the way, difficult to reach if you are not flying but well worth it once you get there.
Go to Morondava and Ft Dauphin, wonderful to see as well.
